Scooter rental is popular among longer-stay visitors, but road conditions and traffic warrant caution, and insurance coverage varies significantly between rental shops. The airport is in the northern part of the island, so journey times to the main beach areas vary considerably: the west-coast beaches are a comfortable ride, while the far south takes longer.
